There are a variety of best practices that will keep your employees safe. Implement the following to protect your employees:
Dry clean-up methods, such as High Intensity Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) filtered vacuum systems, remove particulates and toxins from the air and from breathing space. Use a wet mop following a dry clean-up system to avoid sending remaining particulates into the air.
Only keep the necessary amount of chemicals in stock. Require vendors to take back unused samples or off-spec materials. Recycle all empty containers, and, when possible, return to the supplier for refill.
Close all containers of painting materials immediately after use to lower the evaporative loss to the environment as well as lower inhalation rates.
Provide adequate ventilation to minimalize the risk of exposing your employees to organic vapors and isocyanates. Specifically created ventilation systems will remove vapors from the workspace.
Work with spray gun distributors to ensure that spray guns are appropriately set so that excess paint isn’t directed into the air. Train sprayers on proper spraying techniques to guarantee chemicals are applied in the proper manner. Provide ventilated booths when possible to removed overspray from breathing and air zones. Supplied air systems are the best level of protection for your employees.
Waste paint drums must be properly stored on spill containment pallets. This will protect against leaks and spills.
