Do You Need a Spill Plan?

The Clean Water Act requires a Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) program for organizations that work with large amounts of oil. But how do you tell if the rules apply to you?

Well, you can read the rule.

It’s a doozy of document, topping out at 117 pages. What?!? You don’t want to read hundreds of pages of info from the EPA on spill plans? It might be an excellent cure for insomnia. Snuggle up with a mug of warm milk and…

“…The Administrator must render a decision within 60 days of receiving the appeal or additional information submitted by the owner or operator and must serve the owner or operator with the decision made in the appeal in the manner described in paragraph (f)(1) of this section…”

Yawn…I’m feeling sleepy already.

How about answering four questions instead?

Now, that’s more like it. Now, these are generalizations. But they’re also more likely to keep you awake AND pointed in the right direction.

Having written over 3,000 Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (or SPCC) programs, we’re here to give you the low down. Our compliance inspections, plan development, and permitting assistance will help you resolve your environmental compliance challenges. Learn more >>
